Comment |
Residing in the southern constellation of Vela is RCW39 and RCW40 (aka Gum24 and Gum25 respectively). RCW39 is the smaller of the two nebulae and has not been studied in depth. The Bran catalog identifies RCW39 with the nebulae Bran226 and Wray19-18. RCW40 is an active star forming HII region which appears to be part of the Vela OB1 association and is ionised by the O9 V star CD -48 4352.
