         Object NGC55
Comment NGC55 is a member of the Sculptor Galaxy Group and is classified as an irregular galaxy. The galaxy is nearly edge-on in appearance, presenting a flattened, narrow profile disc structure. NGC55 has numerous large star forming regions creating emission nebulae and producing new stars. The bright galaxy nucleus appears to bulge on either side of the disc and is crossed with dust clouds. In the outer regions tell-tale pinkish star forming areas, and young blue star clusters can be seen. NGC55 is approximately 6 million light years distant.

The image is a LRGB composite with a HA overlay clipping mask to emphasise the HII regions.
