Residing in the constellation Puppis, RCW7 (aka Sh2-302, Gum 6) is an emission nebula ionised by the open star cluster Bochum 5. Near the upper right of the emission nebula is the blue reflection nebula, VDB 97. The nebula is sometimes referred to as the Snowman Nebula with the dark rift nebulosity representing it's scarf. RCW7 is approximately 5,800 light years distant. Image is a [Ha+R]GB composite. |
