Beverly T. Lynds established a catalogue in 1965 of nebulae that were detected on the 48-inch Palomar Sky Survey prints. The catalogue contains 1,053 bright diffuse objects that are believed to primarily belong to our MilkyWay Galaxy. An effort was made to exclude all known planetary nebulae, including those published by Abell in 1961. Lynds' Bright Nebulae (LBN) catalogue number 117 is a cloud of gas and dust located in the constellation Aquarius. Its extremely low surface brightness makes it impossible to see visually. This image is a LRGB composite. |
