Residing in the southern constellation of Norma is a grouping of emission nebulae catalogued as RCW96 (right), RCW97 (top left) and RCW98 (bottom left). The nebulae are nested within a star rich area of the Milky Way. RCW98 is more commonly known as the Coffee Bean nebula due to its resemblance. The nebula is ionised by the O9.5 IV subgiant LSS 3423 and has both emission and reflection characteristics resulting in a pink hue. Image is a [Ha+R]GB composite |
