NGC4755 (aka Kappa Crucis) is an open cluster residing in the southern constellation Crux. The cluster is often referred to as the Jewel Box cluster due to its glittering jewellery appearance contrasting against the golden background hue of the Milky Way. Approximately 100 stars make the cluster, comprising of a red supergiant and many young blue stars. The cluster resides about 6,400 light-years away. This image is a RGB composite |
