The CG30-31 complex resides in the constellation Puppis. The constellations of Vela and Puppis harbour many dark clouds that are more commonly referred to as Cometary Globules (CG). These clouds are seen to have a head-tail morphology with the tails generally pointing away from a central region. The heads often display as bright rims associated with diffuse emission nebulae. Cometary Globules are part of a larger family of dark globules which include the elephant trunk globules, globular filaments and isolated dark globules (Bok Globules). CG30-31's tail points toward the Vela OB2 star association. Many Cometary Globules provide ideal conditions for stellar birth which can be seen in the upper right globule where a stars radiation is peering through the dusty surrounds.
