Discovered by James Dunlop in 1826, IC5332 is a near face-on spiral galaxy residing in the constellation Sculptor. This faint galaxy has a very small central bulge and shows signs of star formation taking place across the reaches of its spiral arms. Originally, IC5332 was thought to be a member of the Sculptor group of galaxies however studies indicate the galaxy is receding significantly faster (approximately 700 km per second) than the average speed of the group. It is therefore unlikely to be classified as a group member. Image is a LRGB composite. |
